Staff and children are to be congratulated on the leavers service which took place in St James's Church in the last week of term.

Many children took part - reading poetry, playing instruments, speaking their thoughts on leaving, and visitors were touched and delighted at these demonstrations of the children's skills and emotions.

PRE-SCHOOL: Harvington Pre-School's message is - we are staying open! The next term will begin on September 4, 8.45-11.45am, and children aged two and a half will be accepted.

Term ended with several days of fun activities which included dressing up, taking part in sports day and going on a visit to West Midlands Safari Park. Parents who gave unstinting support and assistance were warmly thanked by the pre-school staff.

CRICKET CLUB: Last month's annual Summer Ball was an overwhelming success, to quote Robert Maude, the club's secretary.

More than 90 members and guests were treated to a sumptuous meal which was prepared by the social committee and which was prefaced by canaps.

Chairman, Bernard Dyson, thanked all who had contributed to the success of the occasion which ended with dancing to the excellent music provided by Outer Limits.

ST JAMES'S CHURCH: Sunday's service (the only one of the day) will be at 10.30am and will be the occasion on which the congregation and parish will say goodbye to the Rev Preb Ann Hadley who has been Rector for the last 18 months.

Though it was known from the outset that this was a temporary appointment while the restructuring of this part of the Deanery takes place, Rev Ann has worked with energy and foresight to keep the church prepared and ready for the next stage in its life when it will become a joint benefice with The Lenches and Abbot's Morton. She will be greatly missed.

She is moving nearer to Worcester and, in retirement, will focus her energies on the craftwork, music, local history and other hobbies.
