PERSHORE are champions of the Worcestershire Sunday Club Cricket League after beating Barnt Green in a run feast at the Birmingham League side's ground on Sunday.

Batting first, the home side got away to a whirlwind start reaching 104-1 from only 19 overs.

This was mainly due to 74 from Australian Justin Paul, who played an excellent innings of controlled aggression.

After his dismissal with the score at 161 the latter batsmen failed to build on the sound base and never really accelerated to the expected high total, mainly due to Chris Prudden who took two wickets and only conceded 27 runs from his nine overs.

Barnt Green eventually finishing with 240 from their allotted 45 overs.

Pershore, needing to win the game to take the title, got away to a brisk start putting 71 on the board thanks to Chris Granacki and Stephen Cooper (36).

After the loss of two quick wickets, Chris Prudden joined Granacki and the pair added another 74 in even time.

When Granacki was dismissed for an excellent 60, Prudden was joined by Johan Coetsee and a sensible partnership of 68 put the visitors within reach of the winning score.

Prudden was unfortunately dismissed for a brilliant 69, but it was apt that skipper Lea Hawkes came to the wicket to score the winning run after having captained the side to great effect during the season, Coetsee remaining undefeated with 35 not out.
