August 4, 1900

Evesham: AT County Petty Sessions Joseph New, a gardener from Bengeworth, was summoned for allowing his horse to stray at Aldington. He admitted that the horse was on the road. PC Welsh said he saw the horse on the Offenham Road. It had its harness on, but had the bit out of its mouth and was grazing. There was no cord attached to the horse. Defendant said that he had tied the horse to the hedge, but it had broken. He was fined 5s with 5s 6d costs.

August 1, 1925

Evesham: LAST Saturday was Barnardo Shield Day in Evesham, and after the combined collections in the streets of Bengeworth and Evesham and a house to house collection on Friday evening, the sum of £28 10s has been banked. Collections were made at the Grand Cinema on Friday and Saturday evenings and at The Scala Theatre on Friday evening. Mrs Anthony Bayliss, of Bengeworth, organised the collections and she has received a letter of gratitude from the Secretary.

August 5, 1950

Evesham: THE English system of marketing fruit and vegetables received a word of praise from an overseas visitor on Wednesday. Mr R C Bridge, Horticultural Marketing Officer to the Government in Jamaica, was visiting Smithfield Market, Evesham, when he said: "What a fine organisation. This is what we need at home." Mr Bridge is spending several months in Britain, under the auspices of the Ministry of Food, studying the fruit and vegetable industry.

July 31, 1975

Evesham: School-leavers in the Vale are having difficulty in finding employment and a careers officer has warned that many of them will have to change their choice of profession. Mrs Ruth Marshall, deputy area careers officer, said that her office had a total of more than 50 unemployed, and between 35 and 40 of those were school leavers.
