100 years ago - August 4, 1900

TEWKESBURY: There was a number of burglaries in Tewkesbury last week. Mr H A Papps had food and beer stolen from his premises at Orchard House. Miss E Clarke, of York House restaurant also had food stolen. Police suggest that these burglaries are the work of local tramps.

75 years ago - August 1, 1925

WINCHCOMBE: ABOUT 1.30pm, something in the form of a cyclone swept across the Broadway Road, uprooting a large elm tree and causing considerable damage to hedges and fences. The cyclone proceeded north towards Farmcote, where it carried on its destruction by uprooting another tree, which had to be removed before traffic could proceed.

50 years ago - August 5, 1950

CHIPPING CAMPDEN: Speaking at Chipping Campden Grammar School Speech Day on Thursday last week, Mr C Rayner Booth (Chairman of the Governors) said that during the 29 years he had been connected with the school, the standards, quality and the enthusiasm of both pupils and staff had steadily increased. "I am very proud that I have served for that time," he said. Parents and former pupils were among those present.

25 years ago - July 31, 1975

MORE than 60 parents, teachers and children who are fighting proposed cuts in Gloucestershire's education budget crowded into a meeting to discuss the proposals at Gloucester. Most of them went away again after the two-hour debate, disappointed because the revised options for possible cuts of one, two, or three per cent were approved without alteration by the county education committee.
