LAST ditch steps to persuade highways authorities to create a pedestrian only zone along a picturesque riverside area were agreed at a Bewdley Town Council meeting.
The council discussed an outcry among conservationists and some residents along Severnside North in Bewdley to plans to control parking there with double yellow lines and to allow a restricted parking area by the bridge.
Bewdley Civic Society has criticised the idea of "unsightly" lines along the historic bank and residents are especially worried about the regular weekend influx of motorcyclists.
The council agreed to write to the Highways Partnership between Wyre Forest District Council and Worcestershire County Council urging a rethink and making clear the council's support for pedestrianisation.
