Monica Lock, from Evesham College has come up with these yummy ideas to get you creating in the kitchen and brought in a couple of friends to demonstrate. We've printed them here and on the next page - but don't forget to read her vital safety tips first. Get those aprons out!

Paintbrush

cookies

100g plain flour 4oz

75g margarine 3oz

40g caster sugar 1 oz

1 egg yolk, medium 1

food colouring

Equipment: Bowl round-bladed knife sieve baking tray paintbrushes rolling pin biscuit cutters flour dredger small bowl.

Set oven to gas 4, 180C, 350F.

Method: Sieve the flour into a bowl and add the margarine.

Rub the margarine into the flour until it looks like fine breadcrumbs.

Add the sugar, knead until the mixture is soft.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface.

Cut into different shapes with biscuit cutters.

Place on a greased baking tray

Blend one egg yolk with tspn of water.

Divide the mixture into several small cups and colour each one with a different colour.

Paint designs on the cookies using small paintbrushes. Use your imagination to create different designs.

Place the cookies in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Do not let them brown.

Makes eight to 10 cookies.

Chicken drumsticks with lemon and ginger coating

4 chicken drumsticks, 25g/1oz flour, rind of a lemon, tspn ground ginger, tspn ground cumin, 1tbspn oil.

Equipment: chopping board knife polythene bag measuring spoon baking tray grater.

Set oven to gas 5/190C/375F.

Method: Remove the skins from the chicken and wash the chicken well. Do not dry the chicken.

Put the flour into a polythene bag and add the lemon rind, ginger and cumin. Add a pinch of salt and pepper.

Shake the bag well to mix the ingredients.

Place the chicken in the bag and shake the bag to coat the drumsticks.

Place the oil in a non-stick baking tray, add the chicken and bake for about 20-25 minutes.

Pierce the thickest part of the meat to check that the chicken is cooked. The juices should be clear, NOT pink.

Serves two. Serve hot or cold.
