MAY I use your letters page to take issue with some of the comments about the proposed Post Office move that are contained in the pamphlet given to customers, and on the billboard in the Post Office.

In paragraph 2 of the leaflet we are told the new premises will be in a more accessible position at Riverside Shopping Centre. How can the Post Office hierarchy believe that new premises hundreds of yards from the nearest bus stop are more accessible than the current premises, which are adjacent to a bus stop? I doubt if the old people in Yates Court will think so. The new premises may be more accessible for people who use the nearby multi-storey car park, but I'm sure that doesn't include the bulk of Post Office customers.

In the final paragraph honesty rears its head above bland reassurance and we are told that the aim of the move is to offer value for money for our customers, clients and the government. There we have it! The reason for the move is to save the government money - a government that already takes millions from our postal services each year. I assume this will be done by saving money on staff salaries and selling the existing modern and purpose-build premises.

The billboard inside the Evesham Post Office states that, countrywide, 900 main Post Offices are now in partnership and this change has received a warm welcome. Pardon me if I revert to the language of childhood and retort 'Sez who?' I can accept the warm welcome statement only if backed up by an independent poll.
