GET out your buckets and shovels, dear readers, Worcester's Trojan horse is heading Kidderminster's way again (albeit at a canter rather than a gallop due to the speed restrictions on the A449).

Worcester's first gift was a small share in the use of its new hospital - at enormous cost to our own Kidderminster General Hospital.

Next came the tempting offer of Worcester's waste, along with an incinerator in which to burn it.

And its latest offering comprises four sleeping policemen, two speed platforms, a raised mini island and a 20mph speed limit which the Trojan horse will "deposit" along the length of Blakebrook Road.

At the exhibition of proposed traffic-calming that was held in St John's School we were told that:

1 Any resident of the Blakebrook area failing to register a "no" vote to the Director of Environmental Services, County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester, before August 3 would be deemed to be in favour of the proposed scheme.

2 Money for the scheme is already available on a "use it or lose it" basis - and they have no intention of losing it.

3 They will implement similar schemes on "any or all" roads near schools throughout Wyre Forest as part of the government's Safer Routes to Schools Initiative as funds become available.

You have been warned!

Incidentally, has anyone heard the in-joke at County Hall?

Question: "What does WFDC stand for?

Answer: Worcester's Favourite Dumping Centre!

Do we sit back and let them get away with it yet again?
