I FEEL the need to protest at the proposed closure of the Main Post Office in the High Street, Evesham and relocate it in the Co-op, Riverside Centre.

Your correspondent points out the inconvenience to old people (and young people) coming into town by bus to use the facilities and then continuing to do their shopping in Kwik-Save, there is also the market and Somerfields in the same area. Include in this a trip to the library and the many other good shops around that area and these people have an instant problem with the distance to travel to Riverside.

A further complication, businesses in the area with large quantities of mail and/or parcels will not be able to get anywhere near to the office, ie no access in Bridge Street, and low access and paying to Riverside Car Park.

On the whole not a very well thought out scheme.

A better location would be in Kwik-Save or Somerfields for instance, if it needs to move.

There may be a case for relocation, but with the Post Office owning the present building, which is usually very busy when I go, this appears to be a case of get rid at any price. What is to happen to the front of the building after the move, accepting that the sorting office is to remain at the rear (they say). Equally what will happen to the new Post Office if the Co-op decide to close, like Budgens did three times if I recall correctly.

This appears to be economics for the sake of saving money by closing the office and thus getting rid of the staff and their wages, with no consideration for the customer. Maybe the scheme should be put on hold and a poll taken in the area to canvas the views of the people who matter.

Yes, Pershore main Post Office was moved into Dillons, a more crowded location but still on the High Street.
