I WOULD like to make the following points following the comments made by John Stych regarding the moving of the Post Office.

1) The Post Office has not always been in the High Street. If my memory serves me well it was in the Market Square for many years.

2) The Post Office in Riverside will make it easier for older people who live around Merstow Green, Cowl Street, and along Waterside etc.

3) It will increase foot traffic into Riverside, which in turn will attract more new shops into the centre, and hopefully fill the empty shops.

4) It will be easier for car passengers to get to the Post Office, as they can park in the multi-storey car park.

5) The Post Office and eventually the sorting office area at the rear, will more than likely become housing, which will bring more people into the town.

6) The profits of the Post Office are falling, and purely as a matter of economics, it makes sense to make it more efficient. If Mr Stych was offered a 'good deal' to move his china shop, then I suspect he would take advantage of it. Perhaps his gripe is that his shop is sited at the Post Office end of the High Street?

7) The move will, hopefully make the Co-op in Riverside stay. This shop in the centre has had a chequered career, with it changing hands several times.

8) Surely it is better to move the Post Office, and keep it, than not to move the Post Office and see it downgraded, or something worse?
