PREPARATIONS are in full swing for a street party in Worcester to mark the Queen Mother's 100th birthday.

Pinkett Street, in Northwick, will be a riot of colour on Sunday to celebrate the milestone.

And the organisers believe they are the only street in the city to hold a party.

"We applied to the council to close down the street on Sunday and apparently it's the only application they had," said organiser Sandra Smith.

The fun starts with a children's tea party from 2-6pm and features a bouncy castle, jugglers, stilt walkers, a magic show, face painting, balloon modellers and party games.

Around 50 children from Pinkett Street, Saunders Street and neighbouring areas will be joining in the fun.

From 8.30pm a barbecue and disco will be held.

The flags and bunting are already going up, a road sweeper will tidy up tomorrow and the road will be cleared of cars on Sunday morning.

But organisers had to turn to The Sun for large pictures of the Queen Mum after being unable to find any in the city.

6 The centenary will also be celebrated in Worcester with a full peal of the Cathedral bells.

The Worcester Cathedral Guild of Bellringers will ring 5,100 changes at 5pm tomorrow.

The peal is due to take four hours.

"We're delighted to honour such an important national figure," said Canon Bruce Ruddock.

"We'll also be offering special prayers for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at our 8am Eucharist and at choral evensong."
