WORCESTERSHIRE'S small firms are being given the chance to shine in this year's Parcelforce Worldwide Small Business Awards.

The prize money is to top £80,000 in the event, which features 11 regional heats.

Ted Fuller, chairman of the national judging panel, said best practice among small business must be recognised.

"These awards acknowledge the entrepreneurial spirit of British business and also encourage the sharing of experiences," he said.

"We don't just consider financial performance and business planning, we also look at other areas of running a successful company, including communication with customers, suppliers and staff as well as their position in the local community and their commitment to the environment."

Visa International and computer giant IBM have already lent their weight to the ninth annual awards which are open to businesses employing up to 30 people.

Entry forms, which must be returned by the end of September, can be obtained from 0800 919989.
