POLICE have issued a warning to residents after fuel tanks were stolen from outside a Bromsgrove firm.

The incident happened at TFW Dixon and Son Ltd, in Park Road, when a trailer, containing a hot air balloon, balloon basket, burner and fuel tanks was taken.

The balloon, basket and trailer were later found in the West Midlands.

But the burners, a fan and five unmarked propane flight tanks are still missing.

Two tanks are full of fuel and if punctured they will release liquid propane at high pressure causing either freeze burns or, if ignited, a powerful flame.

The remaining three tanks were nearly empty and as a result contain an explosive mixture.

The theft took place on Thursday July 20, between 5pm and 6pm.

Sgt Louise Meeson, from Bromsgrove police, said: "These tanks are dangerous -- especially if they fall into the wrong hands, or if children play with them.

"I would ask the public to be vigilant and if they see them to contact the nearest police station.

"If the tanks are found and not tampered with they are safe.".
