THE final race of Bromsgrove Olympique Cycling Club's ten mile club time trial series was held on Thursday, with veteran Alan Cox winning the series by the slender margin of three points from Mike Solloway, 73 to 70.

Mike won all seven events he contested but needed eight to count for the series. He also impressed throughout the season, with his 25 minutes and two seconds a respectable time for the winding country course.

There was a dead heat for third, with Allan Dyus and Neville Billington both scoring 37 points. Alex Billington won the junior competition from sister Francine and Ross Dingley.

At Curborough Sprint Circuit, near Lichfield, on Saturday, seven young members took to the track with Alex Billington and Will Goulbourne both winning events in the U14 category.

Gavin Ballantyne rode an excellent handicap race, riding on his own for most of the event to win by a few metres from Halesowen's Joe Dodd, who had left his final effort too late.

Ross Dingley was evidently still under the weather with a summer cold, but still put up a good fight to finish second overall. Francine Billington was the only girl in the U16 category. She showed much improved form, staying with the leading boys for much of the event to eventually finish fourth.

Under ten riders Natalie Ballantyne and Genevieve Billington both rode good races, Natalie recovering well from a crash in the first race and Genny from a particularly mean fly in her eye.

On Sunday, Alex, Will and Tom Williams rode the Specialised Super Series event at Welshpool, Will just beating Alex to eighth place. Tom finished 12th.

Olympique's international rider George Mikurcik from Slovakia won his second race in the series, accompanied by much grumbling from the commentator about unpronounceable foreign names!
