CHRIS Newton (New End AC) returned to winning ways at Broad Acres on Monday evening with 29-12-0 of carp by pole fishing corn at peg 30. Paul Newell (Fosters Tipton) was a close second with 28-6-0, third Keith Deaner (Redditch) 23-14-0.

With the school holidays under way there are plenty of junior opens being run. At Moorlands Farm, the Steadfast 2000 open was run on the Meadow Pool. Fifteen-year-old Danny Bache from Worcester took 62-12-0 of carp by pole fishing corn at peg 13. Second Aaron Munslow (DC Lifestyle) 59-14-0, third Luke Townsend (Dudley) 43-2-0.

On Wednesday, the Woodlands View open was won by Rob Gandley (Shakespeare) with a pole and worm catch of 78-9-0 from Arles Pool peg six. Second Mark Westwood (West Midlands) 76-2-0, third Ken Giles (Alve-church) 54-7-0.

The evening Arles Pool open was topped by Paul Yates (Shakespeare) with a ton-up catch of 123-5-0 taken with pole and worms from peg seven. Second Frank Taylor (Tim's Tackle) 82-0-0, third Nick Hill (Woodlands) 67-8-0.

At Astwood Fisheries, Ernie Morris (Good Intent) won the Bluebell Pool open by waggler fishing meat at peg five for 24-6-0 of carp. Second Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) 23-8-0, third Bill Hodgkins (Phoenix) 20-9-0.

The Moorlands Farm open was held on the Bank and Meadow Pools and it was peg 26 on the Meadow that gave Mal Watson (Shakespeare) a winning 109-3-0 catch taken with pole fished worms. Second Mick Henshaw (Fosters MG) 78-1-0, third Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 77-1-0.

The evening Meadow Pool open was headed by John Mottershead (Trentside) with 78-2-0 and again it was pole and worms that did the trick. Second Bob Jones (Moorlands) 74-4-0, third Dave Jordan (Fosters MG) 72-11-0.

At Elmbridge, the Leeda sponsored junior open was fished on the Peacock Pool, which saw Cutnall Green lad, 12-year-old George Brown (Elmbridge) show the way by pole fishing luncheon meat in the margins of peg five for 16-8-0. Second Luke Hughes (Moorlands) 4-13-0, third Tom Edwards (Cutnall Green) 4-4-0.

On Thursday, the Leeda Broad Acres junior open was won by 15 year old Chris Owen (Woodlands View) with 31-4-0 of carp taken from peg 19 with pole fished corn down the margins. Second Peter Bailey (Grafton Flyford) 11-1-0, third Joe Thompson (Broad Acres) 10-2-0.

Moorlands Farm's Thursday Special open was won by Rob Swain (Birmingham Airport) with a 104-5-0 mixed catch by pole fishing corn over casters at Bank Pool peg 15. Second Chris Haile (Barford) 71-13-0, third Bob Jones (Moorlands) 64-13-0.

The Broad Acres Friday evening open saw Andy Maybury (Worcester MG) in winning form by taking 42-3-0 of carp up in the water with pole and meat from peg 32. Second placed Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) had 33-2-0, third Andy Checketts (Matchbox) 29-12-0.

Saturday's Broad Acres open was headed by Tony Hughes (Brookfields) from peg 17 where he pole fished corn down the margins for 55-12-0. Second Andy Jackson (Alcester AA) 26-4-0, third Graham Upton (Athol AC) 15-8-0.

The Dudley Cancer Support Group open was held at Moorlands Farm and raised over £450 for the charity. The organiser of the event, Steve Watson, will remember the day well as he won the match with a ton-up catch of 106-6-0 by pole fishing meat at Bank Pool peg three. Chris Hill (Fosters MG) took the runners-up spot with 98-0-0, third Ian Whitehouse (Team Wesson) 67-8-0.

Steve Watson (Strettons) went on to complete a busy day to top the Moorlands evening Bank Pool open from peg 14 with a waggler and meat catch of 73-4-0. Second Paul Maybury (Moorlands) 56-1-0, third Aaron Munslow (DC Lifestyle) 55-3-0.

On Sunday, the Astwood Fisheries' Buddleia Pool open turned out to be hilarious with Tony Delves (Ovation Leisure) slipping up to his neck into the pool as a four pound tench pulled his pole from his hands!

Tony had to seek help from Rob Francis and myself to pull him out, and he still landed the fish plus a few more with worms and casters from peg 65 to win the match with 23-3-0. Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) took second place with 17-6-0, third yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) 16-3-0.

Birmingham's Civil Service midsummer contest was held on the Club's pool at Elmdon, which saw Yardley angler Dave Hickman take a top score 31-6-0 of carp by pole fishing meat at peg nine. Second Ian Blud 27-14-0, third John Miller 23-7-0.

The Alvechurch Fisheries' Horseshoe Pool open was won by Alan Sutton (CSM) with a pole and chopped worm catch of 50-5-0 from peg 42. Second Ken Giles (Alvechurch) 45-14-0, third Paul Williams (Keith Evans Tackle) 45-6-0.

Chopped worms was the formula at the Furnace Mill open for Andy Newton (DC Lifestyle) when he put together a winning catch of 52-10-0 which included an 8-10-0 bream from Mucky Meadow Pool peg 51. Chris Whitehouse (Spartans) followed with 48-8-0 from Furnace Pool peg 26, third Wayne Knott (Spartans) 37-8-0.
