LONG-SUFFERING Droitwich Spa residents are calling for overgrown trees to be cut back after years of neglect.

Vines Lane householders are demanding action from Wychavon District Council before someone is hurt.

Karen Bradley, who lives in Vines Lane, said: "They overhang the road and the overgrowth around the bottom makes it difficult to see when you want to pull onto the road from the grass verge.

"Drivers speed down this road. Children would only have to run out from the play area and they could be knocked over because the drivers can't see them until it's too late."

The 29-year-old said since the road was closed around 13 years ago the area has been neglected and allowed to grow wild.

She added: "Once you go under the bridge the trees are hanging over the road making it very dark. Anyone could be hiding in the undergrowth."

Residents say they have complained to the authority but nothing has been done.

Karen added: "They need trimming and then looking after.

"The last time anything was done was about five years ago."

Highways Partnership is jointly run by Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon.

Unit manager Geoff Cox said: "No problems have been brought to our attention but now this matter has been raised we will send an inspector out to investigate."
