AMBITIOUS plans to breathe life into the Spa's landlocked canals have been officially announced as part of a multi-million pound British Waterways rescue package.
At its annual meeting in London last Wednesday, the waterways giants pledged to use some of the cash to fund the 22-mile cruising ring restoration.
Last month, a partnership project between British Waterways, Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council was officially laun-ched.
Newly formed charity The Waterways Trust was appointed to take the project forward by carrying out a nine-month financial feasibility study.
Speaking at the annual meeting, British Waterways chief executive Dave Fletcher said: "The current revival builds on the dedication of waterway volunteers over the last 50 years.
"I believe we have only just begun to realise the potential which the waterways have to improve the lives of millions of people, not only now, but in the future.
"The waterways are in every sense a public asset."
The new investment follows a £157m nationwide programme last year.
