AFTER two years' hard work preparing for the village's millennium celebrations, the Cookhill Open Millennium Integral Celebration committee, or COMIC, is to continue its good work.

The committee was set up solely for the purpose of preparing for the millennium and was to disband when the celebrations were over. But after a recent meeting, when members found there was money left over, it was decided they would continue.

The committee will now be known as the Cookhill Millennium Committee and it plans to organise events and raise money for worthy causes and charitable organisations in the village.

Chairman of the committee Eileen Payne is keen to get other villagers involved in the new committee.

She said: "We have thoroughly enjoyed the work we have done over the past couple of years and we now want more people to join us in our new aims and ventures."

The committee will be holding a meeting at the Nevill Arms pub tomorrow at 7pm and welcomes anybody who is interested in joining.

Mrs Payne said: "We also want to get the ball rolling with a fun day towards the end of September.

"Anybody who can help in any way, whether it be baking cakes, donating prizes, or running a stall is most welcome."
