DROITWICH Spa First XI's miserable run of form in Worcestershire League Division One continued on Saturday with only a torrential downpour at St Peter's Fields saving them from certain defeat.

Spa were put into bat by opponents Netherton on a seaming wicket after overnight rain and were soon in trouble at 18-2 from 12 overs.

Overseas player Wesley Euley and Stuart Bryan both batted well for 31, then another collapse ensued. Captain Ian Duggan top scored with 34 as Spa struggled to a dismal 128 all out.

Mike Rogers again took a quick wicket to give the home side a good start, but had to leave the pitch due to illness.

Spa's other bowlers tried hard, but not enough runs had been scored.

Just when it looked like Netherton would secure the win, heavy rain forced the players off with only eight runs required for victory.

Once the storm had passed, the wicket was found to be underwater so the game was abandoned, giving Spa four valuable points in their fight for survival.
