BROMSGROVE and Redditch AC approached the third of four Midland Track and Field League fixtures in second place, but with some star athletes missing through injury and holiday.

The team finished third in a close fought competition and are lying second going into this Saturday's fixture at Yate.

James Bowler is a young man who has stepped up in class this year, and predictably won both the 800m A and 1,500m A with ease. James has recently posted a national class time of 3:49 for 1,500m, which should be good enough for a qualifying spot in the AAAs championships on August 12 and 13.

Jason Gallagher had another busy day at the office, gaining points in pole vault, 110m hurdles, hammer, 200m and the 400m hurdles B race in 64.2.

Dave Turner gained PBs in 100m B (fourth in 11.5), and 200m A (third in 23.2). Dave also performed well in the long jump (5.42) and 4x100m. James Hart gained excellent points for the club by winning the high jump A with ease, only having to jump 1.80, being pipped on the line for second place in the 400m A (52.2), and getting the 4x400m team off to a flying start.

Matt Frost came seventh in the triple jump B (10:12), beating GB international Perris Wilkins. Edwin Grey had an excellent, but frustrating day. Edwin won the 100m A in 11.3, and came second in the 110 hurdles A in 16.0, both equalling his PBs. It won't be long before Edwin is under 16 in the hurdles and coming close to 11 in the flat 100m.

Andrew Freeman performed well in the shot putt (6.28) and discus B (fourth in 18.62). Martyn Dudley and Stephen Elsmere worked very hard in the 2,000m steeplechase, gaining valuable points. Sam Cater demonstrated his versatility in the throwing events, coming sixth in the hammer A (22.84), fifth in the shot putt A (10.69), seventh in the discus A (22.84) and third in the javelin A (47.70). Rob Parker performed well in the javelin, winning the B competition in 46.78.
