WORCESTERSHIRE paceman Kabir Ali produced an heroic batting display when England Under 19s survived a mini-collapse to beat Sri Lanka by three wickets and claim the one-day international series 3-0.

Chasing a target of 178 under the Hove floodlights, England slumped from 79-1 to 142-7.

But Kabir and Carl Gazzard steered them home, adding 36 for the eighth wicket, the County teenager hitting the winning runs with just seven balls remaining.

England suffered an early shock when Akalanka Ganegama bowled Michael Carberry for one but Nicky Peng (43) and skipper Ian Bell (52) shared in a solid second wicket stand of 76.

Earlier, Durham pace-bowler Mark Davies and off-spinner James Dalrymple both claimed 3-32 and Kabir 2-38 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 177.
