BERTOLT Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle is at the Courtyard Theatre, Hereford, next week.
Based on a Chinese legend, the story describes a royal baby abandoned during a revolution, which is brought up by a maid. However, this leads to a conflict over the child between foster and natural mother, which ends up as a literal tug of war - whoever can pull the boy out of a chalk circle drawn on the ground gains parental rights.
Acted by the Courtyard Youth Theatre Group, directed by Estelle van Warmelo, and featuring an original score by The Courtyard's musical director Rab Handleigh, the play opens on Wednesday, July 26 and runs until Saturday, July 29, nightly at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £6.75 (£5 concessions) and are available from 01432 359252
