DROPPED on eight and finally dismissed for 96, in between Andy Wheeler of Barnards Green treated all at Regency Road to a rollercoaster of an innings that wasn't without its share of good fortune in this 40-over a side match last Sunday.

MALVERN RAMBLERS SUNDAY 2ND XI v BARNARDS GREEN SUNDAY 2ND XI

The Green won the toss and elected to bat on a fairly docile strip. Runs didn't come easily and by the end of the 15th over the score stood at 43-2, the openers Yorke and Jones having scored 14 apiece, both falling to the bowling of Croft.

Brown and Wheeler both looked comfortable at the crease until the former was caught in spectacular fashion by Sharp at backward point for ten. Ramblers appeared to be getting the upper hand, but following a missed chance of the bowling of Badsey, Wheeler, ably assisted by Hooper accelerated the scoring form 68-3 at the half way stage to over 200 hitting four sixes and nine fours. With his century in sight Wheeler put up one chance too many and made his way back to the pavilion in the 39th over. Hooper finished on 67no. Croft with 2-25 and Hutchinson with 1-20 were the pick of the Ramblers' bowlers.

In reply Ramblers started steadily and at the half way stage were on 66-3, a similar position to the Green, but the big innings that was needed didn't materialise. Wells (30), Evans (25) and Baker (21) never really found their stride and Ramblers finished on 132.

Ralph, with 5-16, was, to some, the surprise bowling success of the afternoon.
