HAVING won the toss Stone batted first on an excellent track.
STONE v NEWLAND SUNDAY XI
They lost two early wickets but M Taylor (86) was in full control and when he was joined by G Bryant (46) a partnership of 99 runs resulted and although the other batsmen did their bit Mr Extras (43) was the next highest scorer, the result of too many wides and no balls. All the bowlers had a wicket and the innings closed at 213.
The Newland innings was a roller coaster. They lost two wickets in the first over and then five in the next six thanks to a scintillating 35 from D Tenney until he was out lbw. Then followed another mini collapse as the next four batsmen failed to get double figures.
While this was happening Genever (85no) was quietly compiling yet another top score. They slowly fell behind the clock and it was due to the support of M Hadley (12) and R Genever (15no) that a final total of 180 was posted, respectable but not enough and one can't help feeling that the many extras was the cause of their downfall.
