A LOttery grant of more than £100,000 has saved the day for Malvern Borrower's Toy Library.

Library members have been holding their breath waiting for the good news, as the volunteer-run service was threatened with closure.

The library is currently based in Priory Road but its landlords, Malvern Hills District Council, said they had to move out by the end of the month to allow work to begin on the new sports centre.

Following the news that the National Lottery Charities Board has awarded the charity £106,687, vice-chairman Liz Spiers said they were all "really positive" about their future now.

"This money means we can fund a co-ordinator to extend the library's opening hours, increase volunteer numbers and also set up work in the multi-service centre in Baxter's Walk," she said.

"It will also part-fund the rent for our new property, which we hope will be in Barnards Green.

"I think if we hadn't been given this money then we'd have been left high and dry.

"But it's not going to go on toys, money for those will still have to come from fundraising, as ever!"

Meanwhile, a fundraising fair took place at Priory Park on Saturday (July 15),when the library boosted its coffers by £500.

Library chairman Evelyn Cunningham said had been a wonderful day.

"I want to thank all the local businesses which provided items for the tombola and raffle, they were wonderful about handing over gifts," she said.
