A PERSHORE woman who prided herself on her almost spotless 22-year driving record has been fined for drink-driving.

Leanda Saville was three times over the limit after downing wine and a fruit-based punch, a court heard.

Police stopped the 47-year-old catering manager on the A44 Worcester to Pershore Road last Saturday evening at 7.45pm.

She was breathalised and arrested. The lower reading was 118mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, said Kiernan Cunningham, prosecuting. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Charles Hamer, defending told Worcester magistrates that Saville, of Furlongs Road, who admitted the offence, had been overtaken by events.

He said almost two bottles of wine had been drunk the previous evening, when Saville and her husband entertained at home.

"On Saturday, they attended a function," he said. "A fruit cup was available which very much tasted of fruit.

"It very much refreshed her and she did not understand it was alcohol-based with Pimms.

"She drank two large goblets and a quantity of wine which she had with her meal.

"Although she realised the wine was alcoholic she was simply nave about the amount of drink she consumed before the wine."

Mr Hamer said it was a "combination of accident and naivety" which had led to the charge.

"She does not have any kind of drink problem and under normal circumstances prides herself on her care when driving and her record speaks for itself over 22 years."

Magistrates fined her £750 with £55 costs and banned her for 30 months.
