I FELT I must write to add my support to Mrs Reynes call for better street cleaning provision in Malvern Link (Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter, July 7).

I have noticed myself that particular bins always overflow before they are emptied and street cleaning does not occur regularly enough in areas where there is a large concentration of litter. Particularly filthy is the bottom of Yates Hay Road, at the junction with Upper Howsell Road, where there are two convenience stores and a fish and chip shop in close proximity.

In an even worse state than the streets are some of the local recreational spaces and footpaths. Indeed, some footpaths do not appear to be on the Council's cleaning rota at all. Even if these were cleaned a couple of times a year it would make so much difference.

Of course, the problem is not just the council's, it is down to all of us to have some pride in our community and keep it a clean an attractive place to live in.

D HELM, Yates Hay Road, Malvern.
