MALVERN United Angling Association members fished for the Chairman's Cup last Sunday and for the first time it was held on the Club's pool at Mathon.

With warm temperatures forecast the resident carp were expected to feed and good catches were on the cards, although as the match wore on the bites dried up.

Coming out on top was treasurer John Shaw, drawn on peg 20 John used a feeder, which he cast to the island and occasionally on to the island!

He landed several small carp and a few nice roach and Rudd for a winning haul of 18-0-0. In second place was Paul Cooper pegged on 16, Paul found a pole fished with maggot on the hook produced a succession of early fish but things slowed down in the latter stages to leave Paul with a net of 11-1-0.

Two anglers on adjoining pegs battled it out for third spot with Ian Goddard getting the verdict just pipping John Cooper by a single ounce with 9-11-0 of carp taken on the pole. John had a similar net for his 9-10-0.

Dave Harris took the best fish of the day with a common carp of 6-8-0 unfortunately no more followed and Dave finished with 7-2-0 from peg 10.

The final round of the Sandford series took place last Wednesday night and members found the conditions very difficult with the river carrying about two feet of extra water and racing through.

John Shaw took the honours again doing well to take 5-15-0 using feeder tactics landing mainly skimmers and eels. Ian Goddard finished in second spot with 2-12-0. Third place went to Richard Myers with 1-7-0. Paul Bick could only manage a 1-0-0 and fourth place but it didn't stop him from retaining the trophy once again.

The final league placings are as follows:- 1 Paul Bick 34 points, 2 Ian Goddard 30, 3 Mike Spragg 19.

Next contest is the Saturday Scramble this weekend, July 22, on the Severn, draw 3pm.
