MANOR Park Tennis Club's Geoff Smith defeated the reigning champion on his way to lifting the Men's Singles Club Championship recently and then picked up two other titles.

The Tennis Tournament Finals were played on the picturesque settings of the grass courts and Smith, who in the semi-final had tough three setter against Rory Guilding, the 1999 champion, went on to beat Andy Piner in the final.

Smith and John Basel then came through in three tight sets to take the men's doubles trophy.

Louise Mathias and Penny Smith won the ladies doubles, Penny Wendon and Ali Tuck being runners-up.

In the mixed doubles husband and wife team Geoff and Penny Smith overcame stiff opposition from Mike and Jo Marks to add a fourth trophy to their days winnings.

The family doubles was a real marathon with Barry and Victoria Tuck eventually overcoming Mike and Ben marks.

Many thanks to Andrew Sanders for organising this year's tournament.
