AT the recent annual general meeting of the Lamberts & Wade Malvern Table Tennis League, the members heard good reports of the last year's activities.

The league was successful in their application to the Lottery's Awards For All for money to purchase two new tables, nets, barriers and table covers. Unfortunately they did not received the money for improved lighting, but this matter was still being followed up.

The move of the coaching sessions to Dyson Perrins HS had proved to be very satisfactory. A constant number of players had attended the sessions held every Sunday evening throughout the season and some of the youngsters had taken part in County events.

The season had seen Malvern as the largest league in the County with 34 teams and only two matches had not been played. The League team in the County competition had finished in second place behind Worcester who beat Malvern 4-5 in the last match of th season to clinch the title.

Malvern player, Max Crimmins, had won four events at the Worcestershire County Tournament without dropping a game.

The Malvern League Championships had been held at the Winter Gardens with a good number of entries and a very pleasing Junior entry in both boys and girls events.

The tournament secretary is retiring and Bill Nelson was appointed in his place.

All other officers were re-elected and so were the committee, except for Paul Lythgoe, who has been division one secretary for several years. Tribute was paid to Paul's work and his contributions to the Malvern Gazette reports.

In regards to this, tribute was also paid to the excellent coverage our sport had received over the last year and special thanks were given to the sports editor.

The financial situation was reported as satisfactory by the treasurer, Alan Forsdike.

Team secretaries are reminded that entry forms must be with the league secretary by July 28.

Any new teams wishing to enter or anyone interested in joining a team should contact Cicely Palmer on (01684) 540595 as soon as possible.

New members are always assured of a warm welcome.
