PARISH COUNCIL: People will be able to donate a tree in memory of a relative or friend for the millennium woodland to be created at the top of Keyte's Lane. The land has been given by coun Michael Gaden and Mrs Gaden and the Towler Trust and £3,000 has been raised in the village so far. A grant of £2,950 is on offer from Cotswold DC subject to the parish council becoming trustees of the completed site, which they agreed to do at their July meeting. The council were told that such large packages were put in the village postbox that it was difficult, if not impossible, to get anything else in. It was agreed to seek the help of the Royal Mail and also complain about the postal delivery being put back three hours from the usual 8.30am. Following many complaints about the poor surface of the A44 through the village the county council is to spend £65,000 on repairing the road this September/October. This means the road will have to be closed though it will at least bring temporary relief from the juggernauts that make life in the village so unbearable. Another of the village's regular traffic censuses is to be held this year on the usual day, the last Friday in July, from 7am to 10pm and there are still an empty slot or two waiting to be filled by volunteers. A 13-page report from Mr D L Howell, Cotswold traffic manager, informed the council of in-depth investigations into the proposed advisory lorry route to take heavy vehicles away from Bourton-on-the-Hill. The county environment committee will consider the report in September and decided whether to proceed with the route. The report says it was difficult to think of any other location in the county where the problem of lorry intrusion was as severe as at Bourton-on-the-Hill.
