GOVERNORS at a Worcester school said today they were still in the dark about plans to replace it with a supermarket, despite a meeting with the county's head of education.

Michael Vine, chairman of governors at Christopher Whitehead High, says the school needs more information.

"We aren't in a position to know much more," he said after last night's meeting, attended by director of education Julien Kramer.

"They put us in the picture concerning what they know, which is that there is someone out there interested in the site."

Mr Vine said the council had received no planning applications and did not say which developer was interested.

"We couldn't make a decision on the site just based on the possibility of an application," he said.

"We need to know where a replacement would be, what sort of school it would be and how parents and the public would react to a move.

"The ideal solution would be to rebuild the school on the current site."

The council is in negotiations with the unnamed developer who has offered to build a nine-form entry school on the edge of the city.
