INDEPENDENT councillor Mike Francis was in buoyant mood as the results rolled in for Nunnery ward. The win for Stan Knowles meant all three of the Nunnery seats are held by Independents. Coun Francis had compiled what he called The Nunnery Rap, which he and fellow Independent activists had chanted on the streets of Ronkswood during their election campaign: If you want the politics without the whip Vote independent, that's the tip Put the people first, I know we can Vote for Stan the Independent man All of the others don't give a damn That's why I'm telling you Stan's your man

Lib Dem upset at seat fall

LIBERAL Democrat leader and the party's only member of Worcester City Council, Sue Askin, said she was "rather disappointed" to see the Claines seat fall.

"But the Liberal Democrats polled lots more votes than many Conservative and Labour candidates in other wards," she said.

Coun Askin said she would vote according to her principles.

Cheers

VICTORIOUS Conservative candidate for All Saints Allah Ditta was cheered and applauded by members of the city's Asian community as his win was announced.

Mr Ditta claimed he had had a "premonition" that he would snatch the seat from his Labour rival, Bob Peachey.

Alarming

SECURITY alarms at the Guildhall sounded twice during the early stages of voting last night.

Staff, who were able to silence the sirens after a few minutes, said the alarms had been triggered by detectors on the upper storey of the 18th Century building.
