JRR Tolkien

A rich history

The graves of King John and Prince Arthur - Henry VIII's older brother - and Shakespeare's marriage certificate can all be found in Worcester Cathedral. A key battle during the Civil War was fought at Worcester: Charles I lost and was forced to escape. Some of the plotters of the 1605 Gunpowder Plot secretly met in Worcestershire.
