GRAHAM Turner will be eager for a positive response against Football League opposition tomorrow night (7.45pm) when Hereford United host Wrexham.

The Bulls were outclassed in their opening pre-season friendly on Saturday when Coca-Cola League One side Bristol City recorded a 4-0 rout at Edgar Street.

Starting with new signings Jon Brady and Alex Jeannin, along with triallist Carl Jones, unorganised defending contributed to United slumping to a three-goal half-time deficit.

Teenage striker Steven Gillespie put City into a two-goal lead inside 18 minutes and Cole Skuse added a third goal before the interval.

The Bulls failed to make ground in a mediocre second-half, as the visitors wrapped up proceedings with a late Dave Cotterill strike.

Despite the loss in front of a crowd of 1,163, United's director of football Turner said the game provided a good work-out, although he would have preferred an easier start to the pre-season programme.

Turner said: "We could have done with a couple of other games against lower-grade clubs rather than playing against the quality of Bristol City.

"We only had seven days training and there was no shape to our defence, but we will seek to rectify that in training. Our aim will be to improve when we play Wrexham."

Turner is expected to name another strong line-up against the Dragons, but new signing Dean Beckwith, a substitute against Bristol City, could start. Wrexham are poised to field 18-year-old triallist Aar-on Samuel, a former Arsenal youth-team player, who scored twice last Tuesday in the Welsh side's 4-0 friendly victory at Colwyn Bay.

Meanwhile, Hereford's op-ening away fixture of the 2005/06 Nationwide Conference season is to be screened live on Sky.

The televised match at newly-relegated Cambridge United on Tuesday, August 16, will have a 8.05pm kick-off. United begin their league campaign with a home clash against Scarborough on Saturday, August 13.
