A YOUNG musician from Fernhill Heath near Worcester who is studying at London's Royal Academy of Music is to tour with the European Youth Orchestra.

Shulah Oliver will spend five weeks travelling around Portugal, Germany, Holland, and Ireland before performing at the Royal Albert Hall, London, in a concert which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

The 23-year-old, a former pupil at The Kings School, Worcester, will be one of four violinists from the UK. There are around 85 musicians in the string section.

She said: "I think the tour will be hard work but I think it will also be lots of fun."

Shulah, who has raised thousands of pounds for Guide Dogs of the Blind by performing concerts and busking, added that when she auditioned for the orchestra in November 2004 and again in February 2005 she wasn't sure she had made it.

Now she said she is excited and can't wait for the tour to begin. She will fly out to Portugal on Friday, July 22.
