AT the time of writing, the Spa's music festival was drawing to a close, with only the Pop Icons event at the Chateau Impney Hotel to come.

This will undoubtedly attract the largest audience of the whole festival because, of course, the performers are the children of the area and parents, family and friends will have a personal affinity and interest.

This is, of course, perfectly understandable.

What a pity, therefore, that the organisers of the festival, who have brought Droitwich a fortnight of varied and quality music, could not have involved the children at every event. Perhaps then, attendances would have improved on the actual levels achieved.

Some events have been so poorly attended, particularly those where an entrance charge applied. What does that tell us?

The festival organisers deserve our praise and recognition for giving up so much time and taking on such commitment to bring our community something different.

It's their second year of trying and I really hope the response to date does not deter them from attempting to combat EastEnders and Coronation Street with live music and individual talent.
