The President, Maureen Smith welcomed the members to the meeting. Molly Coyle and Freda Edrug were given a special welcome, both recovering from recent operations. It was good to hear that Doris Passey was feeling a little better. Good wishes were sent to her, the birthday girls for the month of July and August were also greeted.

Catherine Keeley, gave her report of the AGM held in the Albert Hall by the National Federation. The Federation would have its 90th birthday in September. All the resolutions had been passed. Among the speakers was Mr Bill Bryson, an American, who so loved England, he and his family had made their home here. Catherine reported that the post office supported the AGM of the federation in its 90th year ahead. The County News letter was read and discussed. All the WI's were encouraged to have a special celebration in September for the 90 years of the WI.

Speaker Mrs Barrington was introduced. She was a potter of much experience. She told us how she got started what equipment she had and how her first kiln was manufactured.

All her explanations enlivened with humourous anecdotes.

She gave a demonstration making a pot, and explained the principles of glazing and firing.

The crowning point, much enjoyed by all was when Chris Paget, a noble volunteer, took over at the wheel, Mrs Barringham helping along the way. It was a valiant effort and Chris threw a pot. She was warmly appointed as was Mrs Heather Barrington for her demonstration. Jean Williams gave a note of thanks, and the evening concluded with the winning of various raffle prizes.
