THE scorecard might give the impression of a one-man show but Pershore Cricket Club's victory in the Under-17 Club Championship was a real team effort.
Michael Hickey produced a great all-round display scoring 77 of his side's 118-8 and then claiming five cheap wickets as Avoncroft were restricted to 93-8.
Hickey smashed eight 4s and three 6s in his magnificent knock that left the opposition shellshocked and facing a daunting challenge in last week's 20-overs-a-side clash.
Their hopes receded when the new ball was taken by Charlie Stokes and Holly Penwarden whose accurate pace attack saw a mere 19 runs scored from the opening eight overs.
Hickey's introduction into the attack brought an early scalp thanks to Penwarden's athletic catch. The bowler then needed no help in sending back another quartet of batsmen - all clean bowled - as Pershore took control.
An excellent bowling display was backed up by some fine fielding and that all-round effort left Pershore victors by 25 runs.
Read more about the club's flourishing junior section in next week's edition when Holly Penwarden - the only girl playing in the Birmin-gham League - reveals her secrets of success.
