MILTON Harris claimed a first at Stratford last Sunday when he trained two winners at the same track on the same day.

The Cotswold handler, who now has his main yard at Edgcote near Banbury, was delighted with his Luddington Road double but wasn't entirely surprised at the outcome.

On another day of searing heat, Harris saw 15/8 chance Federstar take the opener before 16/1 shot Mr Fernet won the Handicap Hurdle for Amateur Riders.

"I knew Federstar would be there or thereabouts and he had a few problems but still ended up comfortable and he's definitely one to follow" Harris explained.

"I had Mr Fernet down as a good each-way chance and he did better than that."

Harris is hopeful of attracting more people into the syndicate for the Stratford winner that could go again in Galway next week. He can be contacted on 07879 634308.

Seven days after steering Keltic Lord to victory at Luddington Road, Richard Thornton was back in the winners' enclosure as the Peter Hiatt trained favourite made it three wins on the bounce.

Charlies Double made it three wins in five starts to win a handicap hurdle for Jim Best, while regular winners at course, Philip Hobbs and jockey Richard Johnson teamed up as Croix De Guerre took the Novices Chase after being sent off at 9/1.

There was another surprise in the last when Native Chancer won the Novices Handicap Hurdle for Temple Guiting handler Jonjo O'Neill who also had 16/1 chance Dark Room finish runner-up tp Keltic Lord.

After landing a 50/1 third the previous week, Elmley Castle trainer Roy Brotherton was again in the thick of the action as Ferrara Flame repeated the finish of Firebird Rising with third place in the opener.

However, there was better news for Brotherton at Windsor on Monday evening when Arabian Moon raced in to win the Seller at 16/1.
