PERSHORE'S bowling attack was put to the sword in Saturday's sweltering heat but the batters responded in fine fashion to deny the visitors victory.

Penkridge rattled up a mammoth 320 runs for the loss of just one wicket as six bowlers failed to halt the run spree on a cracking wicket.

Only 20 runs were scored from the opening ten overs but an opening stand of 74 was followed by an unbroken one of 246 that included centuries for both Ben Holmes and Toby Morrell.

It didn't get much better after tea for the hosts who lost both openers with 12 runs on the board.

However, David White and Lee Wilks ensured it wasn't a complete mismatch with a partnership of 136 that threatened to turn the match on its head.

When both men were dismissed for 68 and 76 respectively, only David Powles was able to carry the attack further although a brief flurry from Stephen Cooper kept the scoreboard ticking over until Pershore were forced to play out for the draw 3o runs short of their target.

On the same run-filled track, Pershore were dismissed for 211 the next day as Luke Dalley (68) and Paul Bozward (48) gave Worcester plenty to think about over tea.

A quickfire 42 from Mwayenga was followed by Carter's unbeaten century that hurried the visitors to a seven-wicket success.

To cap a thoroughly miserable couple of days, the club's second string were on the receiving end at Penn in the Birmingham League where a total of 171 was passed for the loss of just one wicket.
