A KIDDERMINSTER woman had a nasty shock as she awoke to find a burglar in her bedroom.

The intruder ran off with a handbag belonging to the woman after getting into her Stourport Road home. It is believed the man entered the house through a small insecure window, just before 2.30am on Sunday, July 10.

The bag, which he took from the woman's bedside, was later found dumped in Brinton Park, without £40 cash and silver-coloured bracelet worth £10.

The offender, thought to be white, was wearing black jogging bottoms and a black T-shirt that had white writing on it.

A police spokesman said: "Luckily, the woman was not injured but it would have been very frightening for her to wake up and find an intruder in her bedroom.

"It is tempting to leave windows open in hot weather but police advice is to close all ground floor windows when going to bed, as well as first floor windows which an intruder could reach by climbing on to a ground extension, garage or porch or by climbing a drainpipe.

"Even small windows, such as skylights or bathroom fanlights are a potential entry point as burglars can get through any gap larger than a human head."
