MUCH has been written on this page about the revamping of Worcester's High Street. Now that the workers have left, the dust has settled, and city councillors have duly celebrated the official opening, I do not think much of the finished result.
When one considers that the previous blocked-paved surface became unsightly and dangerous - largely due to daily delivery wagons and constant utility contractors not held responsible for leaving their excavations in various state of disrepair - I think these culprits should have been made to pay for this expensive exercise.
I also believe that this expensive project was carried out purely for the benefit of the High Street shop owners.
The absence of matured trees in the city's newly-revamped High Street, offers shoppers and pedestrians alike no shelter from this summer's searing heat or any other adverse weather.
Opting to remove the matured trees denied the city people the pleasures to listen to the dawn chorus or the roosting sounds. Instead they are exposed to constant and substantial bombardment from seagulls and feral pigeons.
