AT the July meeting, president, Barbara Lees, welcomed Shirley White after her recent operation. Several forthcoming events were mentioned including the Autumn Council meeting which will take place at Stourport Civic Centre on October 25. Arrangements are in hand for a possible theatre visit on October 26.
The story of hallmarking and the history of the Birmingham Assay office was described by Mrs Phyllis Benedikz in her illustrated talk. She explained that a hallmark includes the sponsor's or maker's mark, the standard of the metal and the stamp of the assay office, Birmingham having the anchor as its mark.
There will be an open meeting on Monday, August 8, when members will visit Jenny Hughes's gardens at Orleton House, Stanford Bridge, starting at 6.45 pm. followed by a light supper.
The next meeting back in Mamble Village Hall will be on Monday, September 12, at 7.30pm, when Mrs Margaret Powell will speak about the art of quilling. The competition is for an unusual object and there will be a bring and buy stall.
