A VALE wheelchair user has spoken of her worry that someone could soon be hurt because of irresponsible parking at Cheltenham Road post office.

Susan Grinnell, of Peewit Road, Hampton, feels something has to be done after she saw a near miss in an area that she feels is an accident waiting to happen.

The area in question is actually a foot path in front of the post office, just off the crossing on Cheltenham Road.

Members of the public regularly use the space for parking even though there is a car park just a few feet away.

Susan said: "I really think the time has come for something to be done about this before there is a serious accident. Only the other day I saw a child walking off the crossing and a car began to reverse towards him, but luckily it stopped in time.

"It is also a problem for me as I sometimes use a wheelchair to get around and the cars make it hard to get into the shop. When two cars are parked up there, people sometimes have to move into the road to get round which is obviously dangerous and they shouldn't need to do that."

Susan would like to see some sort of notice erected or bollards installed so that it is impossible to park there. She has spoken to the police about it and hopes something will be done soon.

PC Paul Crumpton said: "It is clearly unacceptable if access to the building is affected and the footpath is obstructed. We will talk to the owner of the post office, for her take on the situation and I will be asking officers to keep an eye on the area to understand the extent of the problem.

Officers will deal with the situation appropriately."
