A KIDDERMINSTER man who bought a high-powered car with money from an inheritance crashed into the back of another vehicle, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Allan Gavin then narrowly missed a pedestrian and slid down a pavement.

In a panic he drove the damaged 2.5 litre BMW home, said Antonie Muller, prosecuting.

Gavin, 33, of Primrose Way, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it.

Judge Andrew Geddes adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report and granted the defendant bail. He imposed an interim driving ban.

Gavin overtook on the A449 Kidderminster to Worcester road on a stretch of duel carriageway but, as the road passed under a bridge, it became single track, said Mr Muller.

Gavin could not slow down in time in the 40mph zone and hit the back of the car in front, spinning out of control.

Tim Harrington, defending, said Gavin, of previous good character, had never driven a car with such a high engine capacity before. The car was written off.
