JOBS are being shed at a Stourport manufacturing firm while workers at one of the town's supermarkets will be seeking new positions when their store closes next month.

Severn Road-based firm, TP Activity Toys, is cutting 10 or 11 staff while 12 employees of Kwik Save will be made redundant or invited to take up posts elsewhere within the group.

The Kwik Save store, located in Bridge Street, will cease trading on Monday, August 15 following an "extensive business review".

It is not yet clear what will happen to the site of the store that has been there since 1977.

A spokeswoman for Somerfield and Kwik Save stores said: "All 12 employees are currently in consultation to establish potential opportunities at other stores and businesses in the area with redundancy packages available to those we cannot place. One-to-one consultations will take place shortly."

Manufacturing firm, TP Activity Toys, has also confirmed that it is making job cuts.

The long established company, which manufactures outdoor toys, is blaming the losses on a shift from materials from metal to wood.

Pat Preston, marketing manager, said: "We are currently in a period of consultation with staff and the situation will mean a net loss of around 10 or 11 positions.

"The shape of our business has changed significantly and the restructuring work reflects this and is necessary to meet the challenge ahead."

The company, which currently employs 150 people at two sites in Stourport and Hartlebury, has said that no further cuts are planned.
