A WARTIME romance led to 60 years of happy marriage for a Stourport couple.

Rose Neal was a volunteer behind the counter in her local NAAFI - the wartime caf for troops - in St Andrew's in Scotland when she met Royal Navy man, Graham Neal, who was stationed nearby during the Second World War.

The couple waited until the war ended and got married soon afterwards in the local church on July 25, before moving back to Graham's home town of Stourport. They previously lived in The Walshes and are now in Worth Crescent.

"It's a long time ago now but I remember those days very clearly," said Mrs Neal, now 82.

"We've got on very well over the years. It's all about give and take."

She and Mr Neal, 79, both had jobs at Steatite in Stourport all their working lives. Rose worked in the office and Graham was a kiln operator.

Since they retired, Mr Neal has been keen on gardening and Mrs Neal still works regularly at the day centre near her home.

The couple have three children, nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and plan a family lunch to celebrate.
