VILLAGERS in Feckenham angry at plans for a permanent camp for travellers have come up with a list of objections to the scheme.

Residents have formed an action committee to oppose the county council's proposal to put a 15-pitch site at the electricity sub-station in Rockhill Lane.

They have even suggested a more suitable site for the camp away from Feckenham.

The committee's points of objection included:

l Feckenham is an established conservation area

lThe county has already resisted the development of new homes .

l The small village school would be crowded with the travellers' children

l Closeness to the electrical equipment is dangerous, especially for children

Mr Douglas Rushdon, who called the committee meeting, said: ''Villagers are wholeheartedly opposed to the traveller's site.

"Feckenham is a conservation area which is not appropriate for the camp. Both the borough and county councils have always taken a strict line on planning matters to ensure the character of the village remains unspoilt."

He said that if the county's reaction were unfavourable he would launch a petition.

A county council spokesman said the two and a half-acre site was one of 13 earmarked for development of a camp for travellers.
