RESIDENTS of Upper Arley have been waking up to find a loo has mysteriously appeared in their garden overnight.

Fund-raisers from St Peter's Church have been planting their toilet in unsuspecting residents' gardens to generate money for a new extension.

People who find the loo are asked to make a donation to the St Peter's Church Loo Fund to get it removed and they are then able to nominate the next recipient.

The extension, which will have toilet facilities suitable for disabled people to use, is expected to cost around £75,000, as the church is a grade II listed building.

Church warden, Louvain Beer, said: "Currently, approximately £60,000 has been raised from trust funds, a gift day and donations plus there have been several fund-raising events for which a tiny band of dedicated helpers have sacrificed a lot of time and effort."

She explained the toilet stunt has been well received, adding: "Everybody has seen the funny side and have thought it was a huge joke. They have been very sporting in the way they have taken part in nominating where they want it to go."

This is the second toilet to be moved around people's homes as the first one went missing from someone's garden.

Mrs Beer said: "Whether someone has played a prank or nicked it we don't know. Who would want a bright yellow loo? We have a back-up though and if that is stolen we have another."

Other events are planned to help raise the last £15,000 including a vintage vehicle rally and car boot on August Bank Holiday Monday at the sports field in Arley, starting at noon.

Car boot sales are also being held in the same place every second Saturday of each month, starting at 8am, and a concert, Black Country evening and sponsored walk are also planned for later in the year.
